The 37th ASEAN Summit and related meetings are scheduled to transpire in November during which, there will be a total of 11 high-level meetings over the course of November 13-15, including those between the grouping and its partners, alongside diverse sidelines activities.

In its capacity as ASEAN Chair 2020, Vietnam is redoubling efforts in preparatory work to ensure the events are held successfully, Dung said.

Participants hailed Vietnam’s initiatives during the year, which have made remarkable contributions to ASEAN Community building, as well as the nation’s efforts in COVID-19 containment and economic recovery.

The countries pledged to boost closer coordination aiming to finalize priorities set for the year and plans on pandemic prevention and control.

They also discussed regional connectivity and integration, saying inter-pillar issues should be resolved in a scientific and comprehensive manner, with suitable visions.

The same day, the ASEAN Coordinating Council Working Group (ACCWG) held virtually its 10th meeting to discuss Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership application.

ASEAN was appreciative of Timor-Leste’s determination and efforts to join the grouping and consented to continue helping the country improve its capacity, gradually meeting requirements and obligations for ASEAN membership.

Vietnam will provide continued suitable support for Timor-Leste, with a focus on sharing experience in the preparation work for admission to the regional bloc.
